Kelly Shea
Landmark Group
President |
Client attitude can overcome virtually any
challenge. That point was driven home for me a couple
of months ago during a semi-private training session
with Kelly Shea, the CEO of the Landmark Group. Mr.
Shea is a visionary leader, very willing to try new
strategies and approaches to address problems, but he
would probably not have called himself “computer
savvy” before his training. Yet even without in-depth
familiarity with computers, Mr. Shea recognized the
potential impact speech recognition software could
have on his work life.
A
quick visit to the company’s offices led to the
discovery that the computer Mr. Shea was using needed
some technical modifications to work efficiently with
the software. While the IT staffer made adjustments
we discussed how easy it is to train professionals in
the use of speech recognition software. She was
skeptical, as so many people are. “It sounds too good
to be true. It sounds too easy,” she told me, sure
that the technical upgrades would have little effect
on Mr. Shea’s ability to use the software. After all,
he had only been to one short training session!
Once the technical issues were
addressed, Mr. Shea sat down and immediately began
speaking responses to his long list of emails,
finishing in a matter of minutes. The IT pro who had
been assisting was astonished. “It really is that
simple!”

Implementation can be a friendly term

When it comes to
Dragon NaturallySpeaking, people may feel the same way
about the software but thankfully there isn't a reason
to. Once they understand that speech recognition
is just another input tool for your computer, like a
mouse or keyboard, they realize that the software
isn't very intimidating and can actually be fun to
use. Since you are using your voice in place of
the keyboard you can create your documents or emails
much faster and have more time to do other things
which in turn means you will actually be caught up
faster with your work instead of falling behind when
implementing Dragon into your workflow.
All in all it is very
easy to incorporate Dragon into your workflow for both
employees and IT staff and we are happy to work with
both sides during implementation so they can see that it really is
that easy.

When the time
is right, you'll know it.
Several
weeks ago while meeting with Dr. Daniel Alexander,
Fingerlakes Bone and Joint Center, he had commented,
this technology is very good, however I am still
concerned it will slow me down. My reply to him, then
now is not the time to implement it. He appeared
perplexed and responded, when will it be the right
time?
I have been working with people to implement speech
recognition software for almost 10 years. Just several
months ago my husband, Steven, President of Pace
Windows and Door, realizing the need to utilize e-mail
was no longer something he could avoid, asked me if I
would help him get started with speech recognition
software. Saturday evening, I heard him comment during
a social gathering, “I use speech recognition software
for 100% of my e-mails”. So, don't ever feel pressure
to implement change of any kind, when the time is
right for you personally, you will know it. For
Steven, the time was right!

 What
people are
asking
Q: "How
long would it take to incorporate speech recognition
into my daily routine?"
A: "After your 1 hour training session you
will be ready to incorporate it into your daily
routine."
"Thanks so much for the training today. After you
left I was informed that one of my dictations arrived
at the transcriptionist with no information. This gave
me the opportunity to practice my dictation skills. I
then dictated my report using the voice recognition
software and did the same for this email. I am very
pleased with the accuracy of the work."
ViaHealth
Roger Yeager
"I am enjoying my new skills with my new software.
Thank you for making it so much fun."
Rochester General Hospital
Mary Lou Pulcino M.S.,P.N.P.
"I did 2 bigger projects and they
went well, too. Both were memos of investigative
interviews.
I know that getting really good with this is just a
matter of time."
